There’s something so special about decorating a fireplace for Christmas. For me, a red rose garland draped across a mantle is one of the most beautiful ways to bring warmth and elegance into a room. It instantly becomes the heart of the space, drawing everyone’s attention and lifting the festive spirit.

When I work with clients as a Christmas stylist in Sydney, I often say that a red rose garland feels like romance and Christmas magic all rolled into one. It’s cozy, stylish, and timeless—perfect for both family homes and professional spaces.

Why I Love Red for Christmas

Floral mantel arrangement with red roses, greenery, and red ribbons above a fireplace. Lit candles and a framed flower painting above.

Red has always been the colour of Christmas It’s bold, joyful, and full of meaning. This year, I’ve noticed red is everywhere in Christmas decorating, and I’m not surprised. It just works.

What I love most is how many shades of red you can play with. Crimson feels rich and luxurious, scarlet is bright and fun, berry tones add romance, and even those earthy terracotta reds feel fresh and modern.

No matter the shade, red has this amazing way of feeling timeless while still keeping up with the trends. That’s why it’s one of my go-to palettes as a Sydney Christmas decorator.

My Tip: Add Glass Baubles for Sparkle

One of my favourite tricks when styling a garland is to tuck glass baubles and ornaments deep inside the greenery and roses. Not just on the edges where you can see them right away, but hidden within.

The magic happens when the light catches them whether it’s firelight, candles, or overhead lighting.

A garland on a fireplace mantle is more than just decoration, it’s a way to make your home feel warm, joyful, and ready for the season. Whether you keep it simple with roses and greenery, or add layers of glass ornaments and ribbons, the key is to let red do the heavy lifting.
